"Yes, by God's grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone in all the world." (Heb 2:9b NLT)
"Because God's children are human beings - made of flesh and blood - Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death." (Heb 2:14 NLT)
Jesus came to earth as a flesh-and-blood man, just like any of us. Even though he is God, Hebrews 2:11 says that Jesus is unashamed to call us his brothers and sisters and chose to die for our redemption. I wonder why He had to do that (to die), because shouldn't He have power and authority over Satan? Why should he subject Himself to such sufferings as a man?
SACRIFICE.
That's a scary word to think of. Yet because it was necessary for Him to do so, to be literally flesh and blood, to know how weak we are, so that He is able to stand on OUR behalf against the face of death. In doing so, He has taken away our sins and broken the power of the Devil.
Truly it is by God's grace that He has allowed this to happen, even though He didn't have to. God truly loves us so much, doesn't He?
